In terms of unrealistic body standards the Kardashians have a lot of things to be accountable for. From their highly Photoshopped selfies and endorsement deals for tweaks to their fitness-related shows and documented weight loss journeys, they've turned selling unrealistic expectations into an effective marketing strategy. I doubt that anyone has ever claimed to not have seen the image of a Kardashian and felt any kind of fear about how they appear. Yet, it appears that the Kardashians themselves aren't immune to the negative consequences of the pressures they aid in creating.
For instance, the drama that surrounded Khloe Kardashian's bikini photo that was unfiltered from 2021. It was so desperate for Khloe to get this photo taken off the internet, she threatened with legal actions. Naturally the social media outrage What kind of precedent sets when a woman is scared by a photo of herself who is anything less than flawless? What chance do ordinary women have? However, when you think about the constant struggles Khloe has had to face regarding her body and appearance over the years, despite being looked down upon by her sisters and enduring online harassment, it's clear that the situation is more complicated. Being famous and rich isn't a guarantee of security.
After two years of the bikini scandal, Khloe Kardashian is sharing photos of her bikini according to her own rules. Photos were taken by Kendall Jenner's sister. The photos depict Khloe standing side-on facing an entryway and her body bathed in natural light and and a few sagging cells on display.
What do you think of this new move? Absolutely, Khloe should be praised for her unretouched body in all its apparent imperfections. If even Kardashian embraces self-acceptance and acceptance, then perhaps we're about see a shift in attitude in the face of impossible beauty standards. But, could one single photo really change the message of a decade of brutally filtering selfies? Perhaps not. However, it's certainly an improvement toward the proper direction.
